A love letter from the soul

Kites
by Simon Dupree, 1969

I will fly a yellow paper sun in your sky
When the wind is high, when the wind is high
I will float a silver solid moon through your window
If your night is dark, If your night is dark

In letters of gold on a snow white kite I will write " I love you!"
And send it soaring high above you

For all to read

I will scatter rice paper stars in your heaven
If there are no stars, if there are no stars
All of these and seven wonders more will I fly
When the wind is high, When the wind is high

In letters of gold on a snow white kite I will write "I love you!"
And send it soaring high above you For all to read

(In Chinese-
I love you I love you My love is very strong. It flies high like a kite before the wind, Please do not let go of the string.)

In letters of gold on a snow white kite I will write " I love you!"
And send it soaring high above you
For all to read

My return-
I will look for your yellow sun
I will find your silver moon
Even if through clouds I see none
Even through the trying gloom

I will long for your paper stars
And marvel at their formation
And know the wonders of this world
Like the heavens, are all illusion

I will hold tight to the string of your kite
And remember that you are with me
Through the day and through the night
Even though I cannot see.

Your love will soar through me
Your kite will fly high
In a blessing to me from thee
And to all those who pass by.

Don’t pull away the string
Stay, please don’t leave me.
And with all the trials that life may bring
I promise to stay with thee.
